Changes at BBL

BBL Faithful,

In a follow-up to my recent post, I am proud to announce a new direction for the blog. As most of our prior contributors--including me--have moved on to the working world, we've sought resumes from new writers. Resumes have been forthcoming, and as of today, we've added one new contributor. While we will continue our search, our new contributor (the "Aviator" as he wishes to be called) will join us in periodically posting short news links to articles of legal interest to students, professors, and practitioners. Of course, we'll certainly make all attempts to post substantively from time to time.

On that note, we continue to encourage those who are interested to send your resumes to: tips@blackbooklegal.com.

New Contributing Editor--Blackbook Legal Welcomes Goutam Jois

The Blackbook Legal Blog is delighted to announce that Goutam Jois will be joining our ranks as a contributing editor. Goutam is currently an associate at a large New York City law firm. Prior to joining the firm, Goutam clerked for Judge Wolf on the District of Massachusetts and Judge Straub on the Second Circuit. Goutam graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2007, and also holds a Masters and Public Policy from Georgetown where he also earned his A.B. magna cum laude.

Goutam is widely published, and--in fact--we've featured his scholarship on these pages in the past. We welcome Goutam, and look forward to an abundance of substantive legal posts on the legal issues of the day.

How do you get your blog posts published into a book?

Be Nobel Prize winning economist Gary Becker, or legal intellectual giant Judge Richard Posner. Since 2004, both Becker and Posner have been writing a blog on current economic and legal issues. Recently, "their essays from that blog have been collected into a book, Uncommon Sense, which includes insights on everything from polygamy to organ sales to taxes on fattening foods." CNBC.

How to be a Blogger: An Interview with David Lat

What is legal blogging, and why don't law students do more of it? This is a question that has been on my mind over the past few weeks (and really, months). Is blogging merely a hobby? A form of broadcast for the average person? For us, it has practically become a lifestyle. However, this wasn’t always the case; Blackbook Legal was actually conceived over a cup of chili at Potbelly's. Given our whimsical entrance into the blogosphere, I thought it best to seek an “expert opinion” on these important questions. I caught up with one of the legal profession's most notable and distinguished media personalities: David Lat of Breaking Media. David was very generous with his time, and I was grateful to speak with him both about his experiences and blogging in general.

New Contributing Blogger

BBLers, we have hired a new blogger: Robin Shah. Robin is a 3L at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University in 2006. Her interests include constitutional law, civil rights, gender issues, and tort theory.

We look forward to her contributions over the next year. Meanwhile, we are still accepting applications for contributors, so keep 'em coming.

Update: New Blackbook Legal Contributing Editor

BBLers, we want to introduce a new member of our team: Samuel Greenberg, tax commentator extraordinaire. Sam graduated with high distinction from the University of California, Berekely with a degree in Economics and is currently at the Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where he is an Articles Editor of the Law Review.

Sam's legal and research interests include economics, tax, and constitutional law. Sam hopes to give BBL readers a some insight from the west coast, and assist us in piecing together the enigma that is California. We are excited to have him on board.

In other news, we are still reviewing applications and anticipate hiring one more contributing blogger. Keep the resumes coming. Cheers!

Update: New Blogger Position

Due to a high volume of outstanding applications, we have decided to extend offers for two contributing editors to join our team. As noted in the prior posting, please send a resume and writing sample to tips@blackbooklegal.com. The writing sample should showcase legal writing abilities and may include, for example journal comments, memoranda, or briefs prepared for a class.

New Contributing Blogger Position Available

BBLer's, due to high article demand from our readers, we have decided to institute a search for a new contributing blogger. Prospective bloggers must send a resume and a brief writing sample to tips@blackbooklegal.com. The position will entail requirements of both posting a minimum of one article per week and writing at least one short substantive legal analysis piece per month. Citations and format matters on the legal analysis piece are reviewed internally, so that requirement should not be too onerous.
