In the hopes of delivering on my promise of being a Gnawsome randomist thinker, I am unveiling a new section of BBL. It is called 'Random Musing' and will contain some random thoughts that pop into my head from time to time. I post them for your review and criticism.(1) Is it me, or does the concept of 'carbon off-sets'/Cap & Trade seem nothing more than a revisit of the medieval Catholic concept of Indulgence? For those who are too lazy to click the link, an Indulgence is when a person pays the church X dollars for the absolution of certain sins. More serious sins, of course, cost more than 'venial' sins.
Seems to me, the problem with indulgences was the difficulty in contract enforcement on the back end. Shouldn't be the same problem with carbon off-sets.
