Great link. I have often wondered if such an alternative would be viable in cases of REPEAT sex offenders. If such "treatment" would be administered by the state, would the courts hold it to be unconstitutional on "cruel or unusual punishment" or other grounds? Has anything like this been tried before?
If they want it, it's not "cruel" insofar as cruel refers to cruel under the 8th Amendment. The more interesting question that I'm interested to discuss further is what happens when the state mandates it. Has this ever been challenged before? I'd like to know the answer to 7:55's question.
We will have something on this up next week. I did a little research for a professor last year, which touched on some of the issues presented with chemical castration.
